What is the research section?


The clinical research is also our priority. The use of the same database and the consolidation of an image banks and samples will facilitate the implementation of pioneering studies in the cardiovascular field, in turn, will quantify the impact of this initiative on cardiovascular health of the surrounding population .

The research projects carried out in the UDETMA are oriented primarily to:

  • The improvement in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease.
  • The improvement in the detection and treatment of vascular calcifications in patients with kidney disease.

HCV and association with subclinical atherosclerosis. Ateromatosis observational study in patients with hepatitis C virus

Currently there are few data on the risk of arteriosclerosis and HCV and indicating more European cohort studies, to assess the presence of arteriosclerosis according to the activity and liver virus damage, or if the antiviral treatment reverses the atheromatous disease while healing HCV infection.

This is a cross-sectional study conducted at the University Hospital Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital Santa María de Lleida (Unit UDETMA and Hepatology Unit) in order to assess the association between HCV and subclinical atherosclerosis.

Obesity, presence of subclinical atherosclerosis

Vasorum (VV) vasa are physiological blood vessels circulating in parallel by the adventitia of large vessels supplying blood vessels and large caliber. Its primary mission is to provide nutrients and oxygen to the layers that can not make it through the light.

Study of microangiopathic changes in Vasa vasorum carotid artery wall in patients with Type 1 diabetes mellitus early in the disease

Among the late complications of diabetes mellitus (DM) are distinguished traditionally two main types of vascular involvement, microangiopathy (retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy) and macrovascular (large vessel involvement). We believe that the current classification has determined the conceptual separation between microangiopathic complications and macrovascular and even strands of research in relation to pathogenetic study of different complications.

Psoriasis and cardiovascular disease. Atheromatous disease and psoriasis.

Atheromatosis is a multifactorial inflammatory process that affects the lining of the arteries, has a longstanding clinical exempt, and manifests itself in very advanced stages causing a cardiovascular event. Psoriasis is an inflammatory disease that may favor the development of atheroma and thus increase the risk of cardiovascular events in this population.

Objectives:

  1. To determine the density of the population VV no history of cardiovascular disease psoriasis affections.
  2. To consider whether, in this population, the density of VV relates to IMTC and the presence of plaque.

El Bus de la Salut

Observational trial promoted by UDETMA and primary care professionals and sponsored by the Diputació of Lleida, in collaboration with Renal Foundation Jaume Arnó. This facility is an adapted bus fully equipped with a broad set of diagnotic tools managed by health care professionals that will be moving around the region of Lleida. It is expected that 3.300 persons a year will be enrolled in the project. Thus, by the end of the reclutation period, around 9.900 people will be evaluated.

Adventitial Vasa Vasorum and subclinical atheromatosis in HIV infection

A project on the detection of atherosclerotic plaques in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has been one of the winners of the third call for research projects on HIV and hepatitis program Gilead Fellowhsip Program 2015. The project will be developed jointly in the Unit Detection and treatment of atherothrombotic diseases (UDETMA) and the HIV Unit of the University Hospital Arnau de Vilanova in Lleida (HUAV).

NEFRONA

The NEFRONA project is an observational, prospective, multicenter study of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients with different stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD) distributed throughout the Spanish territory study. The project objectives are:

  •  To study the atherosclerotic burden in patients with CKD through the practice of carotid ultrasound and ankle-brachial index (ABI) and compared with a control group.
  • To evaluate the usefulness of imaging techniques and emerging biomarkers in predicting cardiovascular risk in a cohort of patients with CKD.

Observational, prospective, multicenter study to analyze related to the protective effect of vitamin D in survival and atherosclerosis in chronic kidney disease mechanisms study.

People with chronic kidney disease (CKD) has deficiency of vitamin D (VD) and high cardiovascular mortality (CV). The VD has CV protective effect but inplicados mechanisms are unknown.

Prospective observational study in 771 patients with CKD-5D, between 18 and 75 years, with no previous CV event, from the multicenter study NEFRONA.

Time Tracking 3 years. For the same itinirante team, vascular study will be conducted: Carotid ultrasound, femoral and brachial and ankle-brachial index (ABI).

Identification of a protective phenotype and atherogenic and cardiovascular risk in chronic kidney disease.

The study is designed to:

  • Prospectively analyzed in patients with stage 3 CKD 5D, cardiovascular risk factors (CV) traditional, the inflammation-related (classical and pop), the specifics of the ERC (related to mineral metabolism and others) and image blood ultrasound, affecting:
    • Events fatal and nonfatal CV 5-year follow-up;
    • Presence and progression of atherosclerosis by ultrasound at 2 years follow-up.
  • To develop with the joint analysis of the markers studied A kidney patient specific, mathematical model for calculating CV 5-year risk differentiated by stages.
  • To develop a protective specific atherogenic profile and CV of renal patients.
